What Does an Oral Health Therapist Do and How Can They Help Your Smile?

Oral Health Therapists (OHTs) provide an invaluable service in helping support your dentist in protecting your smile and oral health. They complete additional schooling and training beyond what a dental hygienist completes, which allows them to provide professional teeth cleans and x-rays, but they can also offer additional needed treatment, such as dental fillings, extracting baby teeth, and placing temporary crowns.

Understanding Exceptional Oral Hygiene

Your OHT is also a wealth of information and resources for patients, educating them about their dental health, the right tools and techniques for proper brushing and flossing as well as nutritional recommendations. They can also recommend and provide preventive treatments, such as fluoride and dental sealants, to help protect teeth.

You can expect your OHT to perform and complete your professional teeth clean, and they can also provide treatment for periodontal (gum) disease with deeper cleans called scaling and root planing.

An OHT may also be a valuable resource for treatment recommendations in consultation with your dentist for common concerns, such as tooth decay or damage, or for cosmetic dental suggestions.

Achieving Exceptional Results for Patients

Your OHT and dentist work closely together to provide exceptional care and treatment for patients, helping them achieve and maintain healthy, beautiful smiles.

At Everbright Dental, we offer a wide range of services patients need for optimal oral health:
